I fished my brain out of the drain
The plumber, late, as usual
I’ll do it myself, dammit
Grab my tweezers from the bathroom cupboard
Tiles cool under my feet
Altercation with the mirror
My ugliness fogging up my view
Retrieve my brain with stubbornness
Gently pluck the corner
At the frontal lobe
It only hurts a little bit
Just a pinch
Like the doctor tells me
Dump the remains on the dish rack
Filter the rest out, dripping wet
I didn’t mean to dirty any of our last clean towels
Air dry, bake in the summer sun
Left it too long alone
The flies swarmed and made a home
I picked up my lovely brain
Now a sponge of nothingness
Honeycombs for vacant knowledge
Knock at the door startled me
The plumber has just arrived
