November 2024
This month we are highlighting the works of Jennifer Lange and Andrew Nelson.
Jennifer Lange
Jennifer S. Lange is a self-taught artist creating illustrations for books, games, posters, and worldbuilding projects. Her work has been shown internationally and in online exhibitions. Jennifer lives in northern Germany with her partner, and a lot of cats.
Andrew Nelson
Andrew Lincoln Nelson was born and raised in Wyoming. He studied art, engineering and various sciences and worked as a researcher in robotics, biological sciences and in the design of electric machines. He is now a resident of Arizona and produces detailed pencil drawings of arid landscapes containing machine-creatures, alien plants and other strange conglomerations. Some of his work depicts ideas from speculative biology and non-earthly forms of evolution. Other work leans more toward the surrealistic and photo-realistic. Additionally, his work is generally devoid of any explicit anthropoid form or reference to human purpose. Nelson uses only traditional hand-drawing methods and tools, relying on antique projection methods, constructive geometry, slide rules, models and black and white photographs to lay out his drawings. To this end he occasionally constructs tools and models out of wood, metal, dirt, sand and resin. He also uses many natural objects, mostly plants and decaying wood, for texture and form models.
