They turned a theater in Ukraine
into a sanctuary. Community gathering
until they bombed and burned it.
But still the world would know
how even when they couldn’t
recite the poetry of a play’s lines
perform to awe-filled audiences’ faces
the sacred space that art creates
protected them, welcomed them,
helped them survive.
