Promises

The crocus
impatient for spring
surround the sleeping
daffodils
boasting their anticipated
splash of hued promise
Never subservient
despite their smaller stature
Soft bursts of cupped carpet

Not to be undone by the peaked
crocus
Slowly emerge the bright
yellow trumpets
Staring unabashedly at the sun
Dancing with the breeze
Towering over the now
wilting crocus
who silently wait
til next year.
