Eating soup
Carrot and Coriander
in a downpour
Hot soup
cooling diluting
Escaping from the
flimsy plastic spoon
in leaping globules
vivid orange abstractions
against my impractically white raincoat
which ceased doing me much good
sometime between
you placing the order from the
small Scottish snack hut
and when the clouds
let loose and the lady
apologetically handed us our soups through the open window

There comes a point of freedom
in a downpour
when you are as wet as it is possible to be
and there is nothing left to keep dry

So you might as well enjoy your rain soup
and catch it while you can
Admire the wild notes of ozonated larch the rain imparts
Appreciate the way
water collects
in your sleeves and
pours off your hood
down your collar
