The Cumaean Sybil

The only way to immortality is art.
It’ll last forever, if it’s good enough.
The rest dies young, or dies before any life
can take hold in those empty walls.

If I keep writing about you, over and over,
until I can’t tell where the woman you were
ends and where my millions of recollections
begin, will I get it right sometime? Will you

live? Can I give you that much?
That’s all I want.
