The grass was cut —
Fresh, wet, fragrant.
The air was dense and
The clouds hung low,
Obscuring the way and
Holding back the sun.
The first brush of fall
On September’s skin.
A veined leaf on the sidewalk,
Another tally on the wall,
Life and death and all
the silly things between.
Sam Spring is best known for his songwriting work in the musical duo “Tennis Club” with their song, “Morning” eclipsing 5,000,000 plays on Spotify alone. The 27-year-old will have poetry and short fiction appearing in The Wisconsin Review, The Centifictionist, BarBar and Cosmic Double among others this year.
